Course Information

This course introduces students to the meaning and purpose of occupation in everyday life. Occupations are discussed in terms of choice, roles and lifestyles which are embedded within the various developmental stages of the human lifespan. Students will be introduced to the early founders of occupational therapy as well as explore the political and socio-economic factors that influenced the development of the professions of occupational therapy and occupational science. The history, philosophy, framework, theories of practice and frames of reference are also considered. Students will also explore the influences of the domain and process of occupational therapy and its relationship to occupational performance in OT practice.
