Course Information

This course introduces skills, knowledge and sensitivity needed to communicate and intervene in a variety of psychosocial situations. It is designed to help students understand the interplay between psychological, physical, social and cultural issues. Topics include the description, diagnosis and management of mental health disorders commonly encountered in primary care settings, using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies. Additional topics include examining the normal growth of children, adolescents and adults, human sexuality, managing the patient-PA relationship, counseling skills, the effects of stress and death and dying.
