Course Information

This course will present approaches to create trauma-informed classrooms which includes definitions and characteristics of trauma and how it impacts children, a brief history of trauma and associated theories/models, and a practice of skills for intervention in the classroom to support students and their families. Topics include applied teaching strategies which describe research-based techniques to support students with a history of trauma, as well as strategies to recognize signs of secondary trauma and burnout, followed by ways to mitigate them using research-based self-care techniques.
